NSW Hits Major Milestone in $110.2M Cowra Hospital Revamp

Construction is underway on the $110.2 million Cowra Hospital redevelopment, which will transform the delivery of healthcare in the region.

Regional Health Minister Ryan Park said the first sod was turned on site today, marking a significant milestone for the project.

"It's an exciting day for the community as we progress with delivery of a new purpose-built health facility, which will provide high-quality care and has been tailored to the needs of the region," Mr Park said.

"We're committed to investing in rural and regional healthcare and this development will provide improved facilities to support new health services and contemporary models of care."

Stephen Lawrence, MLC said it's wonderful to see the community embrace the project.

"It's a great day to be on site with staff and the community to mark this significant redevelopment, which will support Cowra and the surrounding communities now and into the future," Mr Lawrence said.

NSW Health Infrastructure Executive Director Rural and Regional, Amanda Bock, said enabling works, which included the demolition of buildings, were completed in 2023 in preparation for main works construction.

"Feedback from staff and the community has been integral through the planning and design of the project, including the hospital's two-level design, as well as improved access and onsite parking, new landscaped areas and enhanced access to district views from the hospital," Ms Bock said.

"The design for the redevelopment has also been informed by engagement and consultation with the local Aboriginal community. As part of this, a cultural room will be located near the new main entrance, providing direct access to an adjoining outdoor space."

Health Infrastructure has appointed Richard Crookes Constructions as the main works contractor and is committed to helping create new training and job opportunities throughout construction.

Community engagement continues with ongoing focus groups underway to inform the patient and visitor experience, alongside the Arts Working Group who are ensuring the community's long held connection with the site is captured through the new hospital's Arts and Culture initiatives.

The new Cowra Hospital is expected to be completed in 2025.
