A detective senior constable has been charged following an internal investigation.
The 37-year-old male officer, from eastern region, was charged with recklessly cause injury, assault by kicking, unlawful assault and common assault.
The alleged incident took place in May 2020 in Wheelers Hill while the officer was on duty.
He will appear at a magistrates' court at a later date.
