Orange City Library is calling for all those who plan to enter NetWaste's Waste 2 Art competition and exhibition this year to submit their entry forms by the end of the month.
Waste 2 Art is a community event that showcases creative works made from reused and recycled waste materials. Orange City Library is coordinating the Orange competition on behalf of NetWaste this year.
Orange City Council's Environmental Sustainability Community Committee Chair, Cr David Mallard says there is still plenty of time to get creative for this year's event.
PLASTIC DOESN'T GROW ON TREES: Last year's overall winner was Heather Snitch of Bathurst, who made this tree out of bread bags.
"Waste 2 Art gives the entire community the opportunity to showcase their creativity and I encourage aspiring and professional artists to take up the challenge and create a new life for waste materials that would otherwise have been thrown away or considered useless," Cr Mallard said.
"I look forward to seeing how people have taken 'rubbish' and turned it into fantastic works of art."
Over the years many materials have been used in Waste 2 Art, from soft plastics, tin cans and bottle tops to rusty machinery parts, scrap metal and bread tags, while each year the event raises awareness of a theme. This year is the 'Year of Textiles and Fast Fashion' however entries do not have to include this material to be eligible.
While entry forms must be submitted by 31 May, entries don't have to be received by the library until the delivery period, which will occur between 15 and 17 June.
Entry forms are available to download from the NetWaste website www.netwaste.com.au or pick up from Orange City Library.
Works can be submitted in these competition categories:
- Primary School (two-dimensional, three-dimensional, functional - furniture, craftworks and wearable items)
- Secondary School (two-dimensional, three-dimensional, functional - furniture, craftworks and wearable items)
- Community (two-dimensional, three-dimensional, functional - furniture, craftworks and wearable items)
- Open (two-dimensional, three-dimensional, functional - furniture, craftworks and wearable items)
- Creative Repair, Restore and Refurbish (Be Creative)
- Annual Waste Theme 2023 (Textiles & Fast Fashion.
The exhibition will be held at Orange City Library from Monday 19 June to Friday 30 June. The winners will be announced at the official opening on Friday 23 June.
The winning entries will be included in the regional competition at Blayney Council from 22 July to 19 August.
