More than 20,000 Western Australian families are saving money on their energy bills after installing home batteries through the Cook Labor Government's WA Residential Battery Scheme.
The enormously popular scheme has seen more than 500 batteries installed each week since its launch in July 2025, with participating households potentially saving up to $1,500 each year on their power bills through use of a solar and battery system. In partnership with the Commonwealth Government, 100,000 WA households are expected to see this benefit.
The batteries installed so far have helped create more than 300 megawatt hours of energy storage - enough to power the daily needs of 15,000 households across the State.
Working together with grid scale batteries, storage contributed 37.2 per cent of the peak demand on Saturday, 9 May, a new high never seen before on the WA grid.
Under the scheme - which is still open for applications - Synergy customers can receive a rebate of up to $1,300 while Horizon Power customers can receive up to $3,800 to install household batteries.
In addition, more than 5,000 households have benefited from no-interest loans to help with the costs of installing a battery, and a solar system if installed with the battery.
The scheme is supported by the $50 million Local Battery Manufacturing Program which provides local battery manufacturers with grants to grow their capacity to provide competitive residential battery products. Low-interest loans are also available for businesses as part of this program.
