Perth Zoo Masterplan comes to life with new designs

  • First milestone in Zoo Masterplan
  • A new café will be built in the heart of the Zoo
  • A separate function centre will be built with its own entrance off Labouchere Road
  • New works will deliver on McGowan Labor Government's election commitment
  • The Perth Zoo Masterplan has hit its first major milestone with designs finalised and tenders now open for the construction of a new café and a new function centre.

The new visitor café will be built in the heart of the Zoo, providing a variety of food and beverage options, alfresco dining opportunities as well as additional Zoo visitor amenities, all in an accessible and convenient central location.

A separate function centre will be built on the western boundary of the Zoo with its own entrance off Labouchere Road. This new venue will enable the community to interact with the Zoo in unique ways, providing contemporary facilities on the Zoo's premises for events, corporate functions, seminars and weddings.

The Zoo's 20-year masterplan is a once in a generation, long-term redevelopment blueprint for Western Australia's State zoo.

The masterplan has been boosted by a $43.5 million investment from the McGowan Government, including a $30 million election commitment.

As stated by Environment Minister Reece Whitby:

"It is so exciting to see the Perth Zoo masterplan progressing.

"It is an ambitious and historic project that will put the Zoo at the forefront of conservation work, education and animal experience globally.

"These two new facilities announced today will significantly improve how the people of Western Australia experience our State's zoo, and will open the doors for more people to come to this inner-city oasis to connect with nature."
