Police charge man after civilians, police assaulted in Sydney City

A man will face court today charged after allegedly assaulting another man as well as police officers in Sydney's CBD last night.

About 9pm (Wednesday 30 June 2021), officers from Sydney City Police Area Command responded to reports of a disturbance on a bus at Clarence Street and Druitt Street, Sydney.

Police have been told a 39-year-old man allegedly assaulted another man, aged 29, before threatening the 70-year-old bus driver with a piece of timber and damaging a perspex shield.

The man exited the bus and was pursued on foot down Kent Street by police before being arrested a short time later near Market Street.

It's alleged that during the man's arrest, he refused to drop the piece of timber and threatened officers repeatedly.

He was taken to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal), common assault, destroy or damage property, armed with intent commit indictable offence, assault police officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty and not wear fitted face covering in public transport.

The man was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Thursday 1 July 2021).
