Police charge man after police assaulted at Homebush

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting police in Sydney's inner west.

About 1.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 7 July 2020), detectives attached to Auburn Police Area Command observed two men fighting at Australia Avenue, Sydney Olympic Park.

When police approached and separated the pair, one of the men allegedly assaulted one of the officers before fleeing the scene on foot.

The 26-year-old man was followed by police to a nearby carpark where he allegedly fled in a car.

The officer sustained a soft tissue injury to his hand.

Following further inquiries, the man was arrested at Auburn Police Station about 9am today (Wednesday 8 July 2020).

He was charged with charged with affray, assault police officer in execution of duty causing actual bodily harm and resist officer in execution of duty.

The North Strathfield man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today, where he was granted conditional bail to appear at the same court on Tuesday 11 August 2020.
