Police charge man after police pursuit at Blue Mountains

Charges have been laid following police pursuit in Springwood last night.

About 12.30am (Saturday 14 November 2020), officers from Blue Mountains Highway Patrol noticed a Subaru Forester travelling east on the Great Western Highway, allegedly at high speed.

Officers attempted to pull the car over, however, it failed to stop. A pursuit was initiated as the vehicle travelled along Hawkesbury Road, Springwood, before it crashed into a grass verge and trees on the side of the road. A small fire broke out under the bonnet of the vehicle.

Officers assisted the 26-year-old driver and his four passengers - two females aged 16 and 24 and two males aged 16 and 22 – out of the vehicle.

The driver was arrested and taken to Springwood Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, disqualified driving, exceed speed by more than 45kmh, cross unbroken lines, use unregistered and uninsured vehicle and goods in custody.

He was refused bail and appeared in Parramatta Local Court today where he was again refused bail. He is next due to appear in Penrith Local Court on Monday 16 November 2020.

The 24-year-old woman was taken to hospital suffering complications from a pre-existing medical condition and the 16-year-old female was taken to hospital suffering minor injuries.

The 22-year-old man was taken to hospital suffering head and leg injuries.

Investigations continue.
