Police charge man with firearm offences amid Strike Force Radius at Tamworth

A man has been charged with firearm offences as investigations continue into the supply of prohibited drugs in the New England region.

In August 2018, detectives from Oxley Police District established Strike Force Radius, with assistance from the Target Action Group and Crime Management Unit, to investigate the supply of illicit drugs and firearms in Tamworth.

Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 40-year-old man at Armidale Police Station yesterday (Monday 18 November 2019).

Police subsequently attended a home on Balala Road, Balala, where a firearm and ammunition were seized.

Upon returning to Armidale Police Station he was charged with 12 offences including - possess unauthorised firearm, two counts of possess unauthorised firearm, possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, possess unregistered firearm - not prohibited firearm/pistol, supply firearm to person unauthorised to possess it, give shortened firearm (not pistol) to other, two counts of acquire ammunition for firearm without licence/permit, supply, give ammunition to person not authorised, and not keep firearm safely-not prohibited firearm/pistol

Police will allege in court the man was involved in the unlawful possession and supply of firearms.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court on 11 December 2019.
