Police charge teen with drug supply after crash – Hume

A teen has been charged with drug supply after illicit drugs were allegedly located in a car following a crash in The Hume region earlier this week.

About 7.10am on Monday (21 June 2021), emergency services were called to Lachlan Valley Way, Kangiara, north of Yass, after a Mitsubishi Triton utility left the road and crashed down an embankment.

The 17-year-old driver was taken to Canberra Hospital for minor injuries to his body and face.

Officers attached to The Hume Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

Cocaine, prescription medication, and a brown substance believed to be methylamphetamine, as well as more than $5500 cash was allegedly seized from the car.

During a search of a home in Harden that afternoon, officers seized the driver’s mobile phone and laptop. All items seized will undergo forensic examination.

Following inquiries, about 1.50pm yesterday (Thursday 24 June 2021), the 17-year-old was arrested at Young Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug, deal with proceeds of crime, and possess prohibited drug.

The boy was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Tuesday 3 August 2021.

Investigations are continuing.
