Police charge two with fraud, drug supply at Goulburn

A man and woman have been charged following an investigation into fraud and drug supply in the state's Southern Tablelands.

In April 2020, Strike Force Hatchetfish was established by detectives from The Hume Police District to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs in the Goulburn area.

Following extensive investigations, strike force officers arrested a man and woman at a home in Goulburn earlier today (Wednesday 11 November 2020).

The police operation began shortly after 8am, with search warrants executed at a home on Kinghorne Street and a storage facility located in Robinson Street, Goulburn. Local police were assisted by officers from the Public Order Riot Squad and Dog Unit.

During the searches, officers located and seized a large quantity of power tools believed to be stolen, a Mitsubishi Triton utility, three motorbikes, 'ice' and cash.

These items will undergo forensic examination.

A 42-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station.

The woman was charged with the following offences:

- Dishonestly obtain property by deception (x2)

- Dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception

- Dealing with identity information to commit, facilitate commission of an indictable offence (x4)

- Supply prohibited drug (x8)

- Take part supply prohibited drug

- Receive stolen property (x10)

- Receive property

- Knowingly / recklessly direct criminal group

- Knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime (x2)

- Deal with property proceeds of crime >$100,000

- Conceal serious indictable offence (>20 years max) of other

The man was charged with the following offences:

- Dishonestly obtain property by deception

- Dealing with identity information to commit, facilitate commission of an indictable offence

- Take part in supply of prohibited drug (x2)

- (Agree to) Supply prohibited drug

- Supply prohibited drug

- Conceal serious indictable offence (>20 years max) of other.

Police will allege the pair supplied 'ice' throughout the Goulburn area on multiple occasions.

It's further alleged the woman falsely represented a woman that was known to them, in order to name the man as the beneficiary of a funeral insurance policy. Police will allege the man falsely claimed an $8,000 payment in August 2020.

It's further alleged the pair concealed information about a stabbing and kidnapping in Goulburn in August 2020.

The pair were refused bail to appear in Goulburn Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 12 November 2020).

Investigations under Strike Force Hatchetfish are continuing.
