Police Disperse Unauthorized Event at University Main Building

On Friday, 17 November, individuals participating in an unauthorised event were gathered at the lobby of the University of Helsinki's Main Building. University staff informed the participants that the event could not be organised in University premises. The participants refused to move the event elsewhere which made it necessary to request assistance from the police.

The University is obliged to ensure peaceful conditions for study and work on University premises. No advance agreement had been made for the event, and events are not permitted to be held on University premises solely on the basis of a notification by the organiser. The event was not in compliance with the rules pertaining to facility use and disrupted regular University operations. Furthermore, political rallies or demonstrations are not permitted on University premises.
