Police Donate To Animal Shelter After Chicken Rescue

Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers have supported a local animal shelter with a generous donation drive after rescuing a feathered fugitive in Bracken Ridge.

During a community youth engagement barbeque at a local skatepark, officers from Gateway District Crime Prevention Unit (DCPC) and Boondall Police Station found themselves rescuing one of the community's feathered members, a pet chicken, from nearby high-speed traffic.

Senior Constable Diana Kratochvil safely transported the chicken to the nearby Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) Warra Animal Shelter for examination and care.

Upon hearing of the rescue, Sergeant Jodie Murray suggested a donation drive to support the organisation, after having recently come across the shelter's growing list of needed items.

Equipped with the shelter's wish list, the officers rallied together to collect and deliver a range of much-needed items, including toys, food and other essentials, to the shelter to support the animals in their care.

This heartwarming effort highlights QPS's commitment to supporting all members of the community, including feathered and four-legged friends.

The egg-citing rescue became a teaching moment for those participating in the youth engagement barbeque, highlighting the importance of care and responsibility.

It has been reported the chicken was placed up for adoption and has since found a loving new home, though investigations into why (and how) the chicken crossed the road remain ongoing.

Police have ruled out fowl play.
