Police lay arson charges, Strathpine and Redbank Plains

Detectives from Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch and Petrie Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following the alleged arson of two restaurants at Strathpine and Redbank Plains two weeks ago, September 2.

Emergency services were called to restaurant fire at Gympie Road at Strathpine just before 1:30am and it will be alleged the fire was deliberately lit.

The building was significantly damaged by the fire.

Police will further allege the fire was linked to an earlier fire at a restaurant on Kruger Parade in Redbank Plains.

No one was inside either restaurants at the time of the fires.

Following investigations, detectives this morning arrested a 20-year-old Logan man.

He has been charged with two counts each of arson and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of contravening a digital access order.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear before Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 14.

Police continue to investigate both incidents and appeal for information that may assist them further.
