Police probe after man assaulted during robbery in Waterloo

Police are investigating after a man was assaulted during an alleged robbery in inner Sydney, NSW Police say.

About 6.30pm yesterday (23 July 2016), a 36-year-old man was walking along on Pitt Street, Waterloo, when he was approached by a man.

Police have been told the man demanded the 36-year-old man’s phone before punching him in the face and head several times, causing the 36-year-old man to fall to the ground.

The man fled the scene with the mobile phone.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Officers attached to Redfern Local Area Command conducted a canvass of the area and commenced and investigation.

The man has been describes as being of African appearance, about 20 years old, 180cm tall, of slim build and dark curly hair.

He was last seen wearing a black and white jumper and dark pants.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
