Police update 1: Homicide investigation at Mansfield

A man has been taken into custody a short distance from where a 23-year-old man was murdered at Mansfield this afternoon.

Dog squad officers arrested the man a short time ago. He is currently assisting police with inquires.

Initial investigations suggest the 23-year-old man was driving a white Mercedes outside of a business located on Pine Mountain Road, when he was confronted by two vehicles, a black Audi A3 hatchback and a white Nissan Patrol just before 1pm.

A group of five males exited the vehicles and proceeded to pull the man from his car and assault him.

The 23-year-old man then collapsed on the corner of Brigadoon Street and Pine Mountain Road.

Four of the offending males left the scene in the Nissan Patrol, with the fifth fleeing on foot towards Flame Tree Court.

Emergency Services were notified and immediately attended, rendering first aid to the man on scene.

He was pronounced deceased a short time later as a result of his injuries, which included multiple stab wounds.

A cordon has been established and investigations are underway into the current location of the Nissan Patrol and its occupants.

Police are appealing for anyone who may see the vehicle to not approach it but dial Triple Zero.
