Police update: Suspicious death investigation at Ipswich

Detectives have charged a 34-year-old woman with murder and are searching for a man in relation to the death of a child in Ipswich in 2019.

Police were called to a Sonter Street address on June 21 after paramedics located the body of a nine-month-old boy inside the premises.

A crime scene was established, and forensic examinations conducted over a number of days.

As a result, an investigation centre was commenced at Yamanto Police Station with detectives from Ipswich Child Protection Unit and State Crime Command's Child Trauma Unit.

This morning, detectives charged a 34-year-old Raceview woman with one count each of murder, misconduct with a corpse and six counts of fail to supply the necessities of life.

The woman has also been charged with one count of unlawful possession of a category R weapon after a torch taser was located at the house by police. This charge is unrelated to the death of the child.

She will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court tomorrow, December 24.

Detectives are appealing for a 41-year-old Bellbowrie man who was living in the house at the time of the boy's death to contact police.
