Power to Address Climate Shocks End in USAID Speech 26 January

USAID

On Tuesday, January 30 at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center, Administrator Samantha Power will deliver a speech on the increasing frequency of climate disasters and what the world must do to build resilience and help impacted communities prepare.

With 2023 marked by near-constant record-breaking heat waves, floods, fires, and storms, climate shocks have now become so regular that they can hardly be called "shocks" any longer. Yet despite the regularity of these disasters, the world consistently fails to prepare for them, allowing them to "shock" systems and destroy infrastructure, crops, and communities. Administrator Power will discuss steps policymakers and business leaders can take to build the market for climate resilience, help communities prepare and respond to climate disasters, and end this era of repeat deadly shock.

Administrator Power will participate in Q&A following her speech.

WHEN: Tuesday, January 30 at 10:00 a.m. EST

WHERE: Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center, 555 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20001
