Premier and Minister must stand up for farmers

Tasmanian Labor

Tasmania's farmers need to know the Premier and the Primary Industries Minister have their back.

This week in Parliament Minister Palmer was asked if she would support the farmers concerned about the impact of transmission infrastructure upgrades related to Project Marinus.

Instead of giving our farmers a simple commitment, she increased their concerns by mistakenly talking about energy projects occurring in the Dorset region on the other side of Tasmania.

This issue is causing our farmers unnecessary stress, and it's time they got answers.

Our farmers want to know they will be compensated fairly for the disruption this will cause to their business and their land, including ongoing compensation for the transmission line.

They want assurances the Premier and the Minister will make the legislative changes required and ensure the use of contemporary contracts for compensation.

And above all they want to see Premier Rockliff and Minister Palmer start getting the basics right for our farmers.

Janie Finlay MP

Shadow Minister for Primary Industries & Water
