UOW earns rankings in 30 out of a possible 54 subjects

Engineering and Technology strongest in latest QS subject rankings

The University of Wollongong's (UOW) strengths in engineering were highlighted in the 2023 QS World University Rankings by Subject, announced today (23 March 2023).

UOW's highest ranking subject was Mineral and Mining Engineering, which was ranked equal 46th in the world, and 10th in Australia.

The University also rated highly in a number of other Engineering and Technology subjects. UOW ranked in the 101-150 band globally for Civil and Structural Engineering; in the 151-200 band for Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering (equal 8th in Australia) and Electrical and Electronic Engineering (equal 9th in Australia); and in the 201-250 band for Computer Science and Information Systems (equal 12th domestically).

Overall, UOW earned rankings in 30 out of a possible 54 subjects, and was ranked in the top 200 in the world in 16 subjects.

In the Life Sciences and Medicine category, UOW's highest ranked subject globally was Nursing, which ranked in the 51-100 band internationally and was placed equal 11th domestically.

In the Natural Sciences, UOW was ranked equal 145th in the world (and 8th in Australia) for Chemistry; in the 101-150 band for Materials Science (equal 8th in Australia) and Geography (also equal 8th domestically); in the 151-200 band for Geology (13th in Australia) and Geophysics (12th in Australia); and in the 201-250 band for Earth and Marine Sciences (13th in Australia) and Environmental Sciences (equal 16th domestically).

UOW's highest ranked subject in the Arts and Humanities was Archaeology, ranked in the 101-150 band globally and 7th nationally, while Philosophy earned a ranking in the 151-200 band and placed 10th domestically. English Language and Literature ranked in the 250-300 band globally and equal 11th domestically.

In the Social Sciences and Management, UOW performed best in Sports-related Subjects, which was ranked in the 51-100 band globally and 12th in Australia. Three subjects were ranked in the 150-200 band globally – Statistics and Operational Research (=9th domestically), Law (=11th), and Accounting and Finance (=13th).
