A Queensland man is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today (27 October, 2026), after allegedly assaulting an airline staff member and causing damage inside the Brisbane Airport terminal.
The Stanborough man, 51, was at a boarding gate yesterday when it is alleged he became aggressive towards airline staff before striking a staff member in the chest and damaging airline equipment on a counter.
The man then walked to a baggage collection area and allegedly began throwing luggage off the carousel while being aggressive towards other travellers in the area.
He was restrained by members of the public until the arrival of AFP officers who placed the man under arrest.
The man was taken to the Brisbane Watch House where he was charged with:
- One count of wilful damage, contrary to section 469(1) of the Criminal Code 1899 (QLD). The maximum penalty for this offence is five years' imprisonment;
- One count of common assault, contrary to section 335 of the Criminal Code 1899 (QLD). The maximum penalty for this offence is three years' imprisonment; and
- One count of public nuisance, contrary to section 6(1) of the Summary Offences Act 2005. The maximum penalty is six months' imprisonment.
AFP Detective acting Superintendent Kurt Wesche said aggressive behaviour towards airline staff or members of the public at airports would not be tolerated.
"The AFP has zero tolerance for antisocial, violent or disruptive behaviour at our airports, and the AFP will take action against any alleged offenders," Det a/Supt Wesche said.
"The travelling public, airport and airline staff deserve to feel safe at our airports and the AFP will continue to work hard to protect the community in the airport precinct."
