Ready, set, go for Gold Coast Marathon's favourite race: SCU 10km Run

Gold Coast Marathon SCU 10km Run 2018

The popular Southern Cross University 10km Run is back as the Gold Coast Marathon race weekend celebrates its return to the Australian running calendar after two COVID false starts.

2022 marks the 15th year of Southern Cross University's sponsorship of the 10km Run that's famous for its flat, fast and picturesque course alongside the city's renowned surf beaches and stunning water views from Sundale Bridge as runners cross the broadwater.

Sunday July 3 will be a massive day of competition, with both the Southern Cross University 10km Run and the 42km Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon to be run just 30 minutes apart.

Across the weekend, competitors can take advantage of complimentary hands-on recovery treatments by Southern Cross University Exercise Science and Osteopathy student practitioners and their supervisors in the Southern Cross Recovery Hub, located in the Event Lawn area.

The starter gun for the Southern Cross University 10km Run will be fired by Mr Ben Roche, Vice President (Engagement) at 6.30am sharp.

"It is with much anticipation that we welcome runners back to compete in the Southern Cross University 10km Run," Mr Roche said.

"We celebrate all those running over the Gold Coast Marathon weekend, acknowledge the time that has been invested in training, and we admire the commitment and demonstration of the importance of healthy active lifestyles."

Almost 200 Southern Cross University students, staff and alumni have assembled as part of Team SCU to compete in events across the Gold Coast Marathon weekend.

Among them is PhD researcher Kirsten Ellis whose two passions are orchestrating bug wars to protect macadamia crops and running long distances; and Isaiah Koopmans, the current Australian 20-24-year-old National Champion of the standard distance triathlon who's just finished his combined marine science/environmental science degree at the University's National Marine Science Centre.

On your marks!
