The Cancer Research Funds of Radiumhemmet is to donate SEK 102 million kronor to point-of-care cancer research at KI. The grant is the largest in the history of the Funds and will finance diagnosis-specific research, infrastructure and research positions.
In their grant package for 2025, the Cancer Research Funds of Radiumhemmet awarded 62 KI-affiliated researchers grants totalling SEK 102 million. Since the research is patient-centred, their results can readily form the basis of new therapies and improved care.
This is the largest donation in the funds' 115-year history and an important step towards improved diagnostics, more accurate treatments and increased quality of life. It covers fifteen diagnostic fields, including skin, breast, prostate and bowel cancer.
There are also research projects designed to develop new therapeutic methods in immunotherapy and radiotherapy, while other projects focus on developing the field of precision medicine with the aim to provide individual patients with a personal treatment regimen.
The donation also includes support for cancer research infrastructure, including at the Centre for Clinical Cancer Studies at Karolinska University Hospital and BioClinicum at Karolinska Institutet.
The Cancer Research Funds of Radiumhemmet comprise the Cancer Society in Stockholm and the King Gustav V Jubilee Fund. The Funds were established to support clinical point-of-care research in the Stockholm region, a great deal of which is conducted at KI.
