Roll up, roll up to Queensland vaccine community hubs

The first of Queensland's community hubs were opened today as part of the State's COVID-19 vaccination roll-out.

Coordinated by Acting Deputy Commissioner Shane Chelepy, the vaccination roll-out will be managed under the disaster management framework, with community hubs already established at Logan, Townsville, Springfield and Rocklea.

While visiting a facility at Logan today, Acting Deputy Commissioner Chelepy was pleased with the co-ordinated rollout.

"This is the first day and it's working pretty smoothly," he said.

He emphasised the importance of people booking prior to arriving and if they make a booking, to make sure they keep it.

"We would particularly like to see those in the priority groups to make their booking and get vaccinated."

The booking process has been made simple and the Queensland Police Service has worked hard to ensure everyone has a positive experience when they arrive.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Chelepy also noted more centres will be coming online in coming weeks.

"There's plenty of spaces available and we are urging everyone who is eligible for their vaccination to make a booking and get vaccinated."

The Logan Entertainment Centre will be open to the public again tomorrow (June 5) and those in regional communities are also encouraged to get an injection.

Townsville residents in particular are being encouraged to head to the hospital and roll up their sleeves.
