Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Canadian cities and towns flourish when they have community public spaces to promote social interaction and physical activity, and provide access to recreational programs and facilities. These amenities are integral to the overall well-being of individuals, families and communities. Our economic recovery is closely linked to the vitality of our local communities and their shared spaces.

Today, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA, announced federal government contributions of $400,000 to Salisbury Farmers and Artisans Market Ltd. This includes $300,000 under ACOA's Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), as well as $100,000 from the Government of Canada's Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF).

The Honourable Mike Holland, Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Development, announced a contribution of $250,000 towards the project through the Regional Development Corporation (RDC).

These investments will support continued growth of the market and help it become an important promoter of economic opportunity for each participating vendor and the local communities.

Project activity includes renovating an existing barn to include heating and solar panels, improving accessibility features, and constructing gender neutral washrooms that will benefit under-represented groups.

The CCRF was launched in June 2021. The fund provides $500 million over two years to Canada's regional development agencies (RDAs) to invest in shared and inclusive public spaces. The Government of Canada is committed to investing in shared spaces to make them safer, greener and more accessible. This will help stimulate local economies, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for Canadians.
