Peter Gutwein,Premier

I am pleased to confirm Tim Baker has been appointed as Secretary to the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE), a role he has been Acting in since January 2020 and previously acted in on three occasions.

The appointment is for a five year period, and follows a comprehensive and competitive four-stage nation-wide recruitment process, with 23 applications received.

Mr Baker will lead DPIPWE as the steward for Tasmania's land, air and water, in partnership with the community and industry. Importantly, he will play a key leadership role in the Government's plan to Rebuild a Stronger Tasmania as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

He brings extensive experience in leading public sector organisations across a 20 year state service career. This includes leading DPIPWE most recently in the vital response to coronavirus at Tasmania's borders.

Given Mr Baker's experience and leadership expertise I have every confidence in his appointment and look forward to working with him.
