Serious assault of police officerin Brisbane

Police have charged a man following an alleged assault on a police prosecutor in Brisbane this morning.

Around 11.15am, the man allegedly approached a barrister on George Street and became aggressive.

A male sergeant observed the man's behaviour and intervened to de-escalate the situation. The man allegedly turned on the officer and punched him several times in the head.

Members of the public assisted the officer before the man was taken into custody.

The officer and another 47-year-old man were transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The barrister was not physically injured.

The 24-year-old Gailes man was denied police bail and charged with serious assault of a police causing bodily harm, serious assault of a police officer and commit public nuisance.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
