Smart Bioelectronics for Skin and Brain

Jülich, 1 September 2022 - Prof. Francesca Santoro is being honoured with this year's prestigious Early Career Award by the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina). The materials scientist and engineer for biomedical technology has been researching and teaching at Forschungszentrum Jülich's Institute of Biological Information Processing - Bioelectronics and at RWTH Aachen University's Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology since 2022. With this award, Leopoldina recognizes Santoro's research efforts in the field of bioelectronics as well as her work on the development of new materials that can speed up the healing process of the skin and nervous tissue through electrical stimulation. The award, which is donated by the Commerzbank Foundation and comes with € 30,000 in prize money, will be presented during Leopoldina's annual assembly in Halle (Saale) on Friday, 23 September 2022.
