South East Queensland hotspot revoked

Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet

The Chief Health Officer has revoked the South East Queensland hotspot for the purposes of travel to the Northern Territory, effective from 1.30pm on 10 August 2021.

South East Queensland Local Government Areas revoked as hotspots include:

  • Brisbane City Council
  • Logan City Council
  • Moreton Bay Regional Council
  • Ipswich City Council
  • Redland City Council
  • Sunshine Coast Regional Council
  • Gold Coast City Council
  • Noosa Shire Council
  • Somerset Regional Council
  • Lockyer Valley Regional Council
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council

Hotspot declarations remain in place for Cairns Regional Council and the Aboriginal Shire of Yarrabah.

People arriving in the Northern Territory from South East Queensland will no longer have to undertake mandatory supervised quarantine in the NT. Anyone currently in mandatory supervised quarantine from these areas will be able to exit.

Revoking hotspot locations in South East Queensland follows the lifting of restrictions and high COVID-19 testing numbers, which have led to the COVID-19 outbreak being contained.

A number of testing and quarantine directions remain in place for those people who have visited a COVID-19 public exposure site in Queensland and are a close contact, casual contact or low risk contact.

Public exposure sites continue to change and it is important that those people who have arrived in the Northern Territory from Queensland check the Queensland Health website daily to review.

To book a COVID-19 test, contact the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 490 484 or book online.

The Chief Health Officer will continue to review and assess the COVID-19 situation across Australia, taking into account COVID-19 monitoring and data collection, the extent of community transmission and risks to the NT community.

The risk of COVID-19 in our communities cannot be eliminated which is why it is important for everyone to follow all health directions.

  • Book your COVID-19 vaccine
  • Check in using The Territory Check In App every time, everywhere
  • If you have symptoms, stay away from others and get tested for COVID-19
  • Wash your hands with soap and water and use hand sanitiser regularly
  • Do not go to work if you feel sick
  • Maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres where possible

Quotes attributable to Chief Health Officer Dr Hugh Heggie:

"Significant testing has been undertaken across Queensland, with only three new positive cases reported today and none of them were in the community while infectious.

"South East Queensland will be revoked as a hotspot today, following the outbreak being contained and the COVID-19 risk being reduced.

"The threat of COVID-19 remains, particularly as we are dealing with the highly infectious Delta variant. As always, I urge Territorians to consider the need for interstate travel and to be aware of any potential consequences.

"Additional COVID-19 vaccine appointments have been made available across the Territory and I encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as you can.''
