The University of St Andrews is playing a key role in a major new regional partnership backed by £20 million from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) that aims to turn creative ideas into innovative products, businesses and jobs across the Tay Cities Region.

The new Tay Create Innovation Partnership brings together universities, industry leaders, public bodies and cultural organisations to accelerate growth in creative technology, design and digital innovation.
Led by Abertay University, the Tay Create Innovation Partnership funded through a £20m investment from the £500m UKRI Local Innovation Partnerships.
The University joins a wide-ranging partnership that includes the University of Dundee, V&A Dundee, Creative Scotland, Techscaler, Interface and leading creative technology businesses.
The announcement highlights the University's growing contribution to innovation and economic impact beyond academia. Through expertise in computer science and emerging technologies, researchers will work alongside businesses and partner organisations to develop new products, explore future technologies and support regional growth.
The partnership builds on the strengths of the Tay Cities Region's internationally recognised creative and technology sectors, including games development, digital innovation, artificial intelligence and immersive technologies. While a new innovation hub will be based at Camperdown Dock in Dundee, the initiative will draw on expertise from across the region, including the University of St Andrews.
Speaking about the opportunity, University of St Andrews lead for the project Dr Ozgur Akgun, from the School of Computer Science, said: "We are delighted to be adding computer science expertise to Tay Create as we seek to translate ambitious creative ideas into robust and scalable innovations. Tay Create will bring researchers and industry together to explore emerging technologies, develop new applications and unlock opportunities for economic growth across the Tay Cities Region."
Over the coming years, Tay Create will support businesses and researchers through innovation programmes, collaborative projects, specialist facilities and investment opportunities. The partnership will also help creative technologies find applications in sectors including health, manufacturing and energy, creating new opportunities for research collaboration and real-world impact.
Tay Create represents another example of how University of St Andrews research and expertise are contributing to innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development across the region.
