State of art BMX Facility officially opened

BMX Opening 3

Camden could soon be home to the next BMX Olympian after Council officially opened Kirkham Park BMX Facility today.

The opening coincided with the facility hosting the 2022 AusCycling BMX State Championships this weekend.

Upgrades to Kirkham Park BMX Facility, which cost $5.56 million in total, make it an international-level venue, with works including:

  • An eight-metre start hill;
  • Elite first straight;
  • Ramps;
  • Warm-up track;
  • Marshalling area with staging shelter;
  • All weather pump track;
  • Storage building;
  • New internal connecting road;
  • Additional car parking;
  • New pedestrian bridge over drainage channel;
  • Concrete pathways; and
  • Associated civil, electrical, lighting and landscaping works.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the facility would be a popular spot for many young and aspiring athletes whilst also attracting riders from all over Australia.

“Council is dedicated to providing its residents with new high-quality facilities, and this facility is definitely one of the jewels in our crown,” Cr Fedeli said.

“It’s been amazing being part of this process because we’ve learnt so much about the sport and the tracks themselves.

“The facility also welcomes casual users to access the pump track which is open for riders of all ability levels.

The pump track provides a circuit that includes rollers, banked turns and jump features to provide riders with a number of riding options through internal loops.

The four different loops for riders to use, include a beginner loop, intermediate/expert loop, expert jump and snake-run loop and the berm corner turns.

Kirkham Park BMX Facility was completed in two stages, with stage 2A co-funded by Council and the NSW Government’s 2019/20 Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund.

The upgrade to the BMX Facility comes just weeks after Council officially opened Narellan Sports Hub Stage 2, which included additional netball courts, brand-new athletics track and facilities, rugby league fields and cycling criterion.
