Strike Force Vulan arrest man for South Lake fire

Strike Force Vulcan detectives from the WA Police Arson Squad have charged a man in relation to a fire in South Lake yesterday, 30 December 2020.

It is alleged about 5.40pm, the man set fire to a sign at a medical centre located on Berrigan Drive before he continued walking through the adjoining park on to bushland near South Lake Drive and Stillwater Gardens where he set fire to bushland.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended and extinguished the fire.

The 52-year-old man from South Lake is due to appear before the Fremantle Magistrates Court today, 31 December 2020 charged with:-

• Criminal Damage by Fire (carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment); and

• Lighting or Attempting to Light a Fire Likely to Injure or Damage (carries a maximum penalty of 20 years).
