The City of Greater Bendigo is calling on local residents to complete a short survey about their general waste, recycling and organic bins and the frequency of kerbside collections to help plan for the future.
City of Greater Bendigo Resource Recovery and Education Manager Brooke Pearce said the City is working towards meeting the requirements of the City's draft Climate Change and Environment Strategy.
"A key action of the strategy is working towards zero waste. Zero waste is about reducing the volume of waste we generate, reusing it where possible and ultimately sending nothing to landfill that can be recovered or recycled," Ms Pearce said.
"To help us achieve these aims the City is asking residents to complete a short survey to help guide future decision making and planning relating to the frequency of kerbside collections of general waste, recycling and organics bins.
"Community feedback is crucial to inform future planning and decision making and the survey should only take a few minutes to complete.
"A future change in the frequency of kerbside general waste, organics and recycling collections has the potential to save Greater Bendigo households money and encourage better home waste management which helps divert recyclable items from landfill."
The survey should only take a few minutes to complete and is available to complete at https://letstalkgreaterbendigo.com.au/kerbside-collection-survey until Friday October 22, 2021.
The survey questions include:
- What size general waste bin do you have (140L (small) or 240L (large)?
- On average, how full is your general waste bin on a weekly basis?
- What size recycling bin do you have (140L (small), 240L (large) or 360L (extra-large)?
- On average, how full is your recycling bin on a fortnightly basis?
- Do you have an organics bin? If so, what size do you have (140L (small) or 240L (large)?
- On average, how full is your organics bin on a fortnightly basis?
- Would you be happy with a fortnightly general waste collection rather than a weekly collection if it saved you approximately $55 on your annual rates bill and supported the reduction of carbon emissions?
- Would you be happy to change general waste collection to fortnightly and increase recycling to weekly?
