Taxi robbery in North Adelaide, South Australia

A taxi driver has been assaulted and his taxi stolen in North Adelaide.

About 12.50am today (Saturday 5 June) a taxi driver was flagged down by a man in O'Connell Street.

When the driver stopped the taxi, the man opened the driver's door and demanded money, before pulling the driver out of the vehicle and assaulting him.

The suspect then got into the taxi and sped off.

The victim was not injured.

The taxi, a Toyota Prius was located soon after on Prospect Road.

A search for the suspect commenced involving the police helicopter and a police dog, but he was not located.

The suspect is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, about 170cm tall, slim build, short dark hair, and was wearing a dark-coloured t-shirt, light-coloured shorts and white socks.

Police do not believe this incident is related to the theft of another taxi in Adelaide around the same time.
