Teens Charged After Central Coast to Cowan Pursuit

Two teenage boys have been charged following two alleged pursuits through areas of the Central Coast and Hawkesbury River region.

Shortly after 7am yesterday (Wednesday 1 July 2026), officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling the M1 Motorway, Palmdale, when they saw a station wagon travelling north, which had been reported stolen from a Tennyson Point address earlier the same day.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

About an hour later, the station wagon was again seen by officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command now travelling south bound on the M1 Motorway, near Calga.

When the driver again allegedly failed to stop as directed, a second pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued south on the M1 where road spikes were successfully deployed just south of the Berowra off-ramp.

The pursuit continued south on the M1 with the occupants of the station wagon allegedly throwing objects from the vehicle.

The station wagon came to a stop about 1km south of the Kuring Gai Chase on-ramp at Cowan, where – with the assistance of officers from the Raptor Squad, Dog Unit and Kuring Gai Police Area Command – two 16-year-old boys were arrested.

They were taken to Hornsby Police Station where one of the 16-year-old boys – the alleged driver - was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence.

The second boy was charged under so called 'post-and-boast' legislation (commit s 112(2) offence & disseminate), as well as aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

They were both refused bail to appear at a children's court today.
