The Adelaide Oval footbridge will come alive in a blue and green light display on National Corrections Day (NCD) in honour of South Australia's hardworking Correctional Services staff.
The display will shine bright from sunset on Friday 15 January – the day dedicated to corrections officers – to sunrise on Saturday 16 January.
The theme for the 2021 celebration is Thank You.
Service recognition award ceremonies will take place at various facilities across the state as corrections staff celebrate with breakfasts, morning teas and BBQ lunches.
Minister for Correctional Services, Vincent Tarzia, said more than 2000 staff work across South Australia's prisons and community corrections centres.
"Our dedicated corrections staff are on the front line in prisons, supervise offenders in the community and support and manage rehabilitation programs to lower the rate of reoffending," Minister Tarzia said.
"They all play a vital role in keeping the community safe and did an incredible job in 2020.
"Let's not forget the challenges they faced at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Our corrections officers kept our institutions virus free and deserve appreciation for their dedication and professionalism in the face of adversity."
Department for Correctional Services Chief Executive David Brown said much of the work corrections staff does goes unnoticed by the public, as it occurs behind prison walls or inside community corrections centres.
"Our staff contribute to community safety every day, reducing reoffending, the number of victims of crime, and breaking cycles of crime," Mr Brown said.
"Corrections is a challenging and demanding industry, but it is also a rewarding profession that Correctional Services staff are very proud to work in."
The inaugural NCD was held on 19 January 2017.
