Third man charged after investigation into Lakemba shooting

Detectives have charged a third man as investigations continue into a shooting at Lakemba in August, where another man was assaulted and shot five times.

Just after 8.15pm on Monday 31 August 2020, emergency services were called to a home at Garrong Road, Lakemba, following reports a man had been injured.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command attended and a found a 29-year-old man suffering five gunshot wounds to his leg and abdomen.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to St George Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was later released.

A crime scene was established at the home, which was forensically examined by specialist officers.

Detectives from Campsie Police Area Command, together with detectives from the State Crime Command's Organised Crime Squad, established Strike Force Lissa to further investigate the incident.

Two men – aged 23 and 24 – were arrested and charged over their alleged roles in the shooting last month. They remain before the courts.

An arrest warrant was issued for a third man, aged 27, who was believed to be avoiding police.

Following further inquiries, strike force detectives located the man hiding in a laundry at a home unit at Marrickville about 10.45am yesterday (Thursday 8 October 2020).

He and the 26-year-old female resident were arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station.

The Lakemba man was charged with shoot at with intent to murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The woman was charged with possess unauthorised pistol and possess prohibited drug.

During a review of the woman's mobile phone, police located numerous videos depicting her in possession of a Browning handgun.

The pair have been refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Friday 9 October 2020).

Investigations are continuing.
