Throwing shade on CBR playgrounds

All regions across Canberra will benefit from improved play spaces, with the ACT Government announcing a further 19 playgrounds will receiving refresh work. This follows the 16 play spaces that are currently undergoing upgrades announced last year.

"Play space refreshes will help improve the condition of existing playgrounds and includes repainting of equipment, replacing soft-fall mulch, and repairing seating, decks and fences," Minister Steel said.

These improvements will take place in Fadden, Hughes, Melba, Chifley, Watson, Isaacs, McKellar, Griffith, Fadden, Belconnen, Wanniassa, Pearce, Monash, Florey (2 playgrounds receiving upgrades). Macquarie, Theodore (2 playgrounds receiving upgrades), and Watson.

"One of the upgrade priorities is new shade sails so that playgrounds can be enjoyed during the heat of the summer."

Four new shade sails will be installed at playgrounds in Hughes, Isaacs, Monash and Macquarie, expanding on the seven new shade sails installed this financial year.

"The upgrades and refreshes will make Canberra playgrounds more attractive, comfortable and safe for children and their parents and carers."

The 19 play spaces receiving upgrades are in addition to the new or upgraded play spaces already announced at Kambah, Yerrabi Pond, Richardson, Narrabundah, Higgins, Torrens, Waramanga, Eddison Park, Glebe Park, and Farrer.

"We want to create spaces for children of all ages to socialise and develop their motor skills in a broad range of play environments," Minister Steel said.
