A cold front associated with a low-pressure system will move across eastern Australia today bringing rain and thunderstorms to parts of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
Thunderstorms in some parts of Qld, NSW and northern Victoria today will be severe, producing heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding, damaging winds and possibly large hail.
The Bureau of Meteorology may issue severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of Qld and NSW later today.
Widespread rainfall of between 15 and 30 mm is likely across much of inland NSW, northern Victoria and parts of southern Qld, with isolated totals up to 50 mm possible, especially with thunderstorms.
Rain and isolated thunderstorms will impact the east coast Thursday night and Friday morning but lighter falls are expected than inland, it will then clear offshore Friday night.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue in Tasmania, Vic and southern NSW on Friday, easing Saturday.
The rainfall is likely to lead to renewed river rises across many rivers already in flood across southern Qld, NSW and Victoria.
The cold front brought heavy rain and large hail to parts of South Australian and western NSW overnight, with Port Augusta in SA experiencing severe thunderstorms that caused flash flooding.
