Thunderstorms and windy conditions in parts of NSW / ACT

Bureau of Meteorology warns that stormy and windy conditions are developing today in NSW and the ACT.
 
The main details are below:
 
  • A low pressure trough is moving through parts of NSW and the ACT with the potential for damaging winds and severe thunderstorms
  • Thunderstorms developed in Canberra and the central ranges this morning. The situation in the ACT has now eased
  • More storms are forecast for Sydney, the Illawarra, Central Coast and South Coast by mid-afternoon
  • The Hunter and Mid North Coast could experience storms later in the afternoon  
  • Damaging winds could occur, potentially strong enough to bring down trees or powerlines
  • There's also the risk of large hail developing
  • Temperatures will be quite warm ahead of the change
  • A Severe Weather Warning has been issued for the Snowy Mts and parts of the NSW South Coast and the Southern Tablelands
  • Damaging winds are expected in those regions from late morning until mid-evening
  • There's the potential for more storms to develop in north east NSW on Friday
  • Families away on school holidays are encouraged to monitor warnings for their area
