Title Compliance Branch tackles unauthorised mining

WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety

The department's Title Compliance Branch has recently taken on the function of investigating unauthorised mining activity, which was previously carried out by the Investigation Services team.

The decision to embed these roles within the branch responsible for administering post-grant compliance activities across mining and petroleum tenure was made to enhance the department's Integrated Compliance Plan for the Resource and Environmental Regulation Group, and provides industry with a single point of contact for all title compliance and enforcement matters for the Group.

Matt Peckitt and Peter Omodei have joined the branch as Principal Investigations Officers and will work closely with regional-based mining liaison officers, environmental officers across minerals and petroleum matters, and other government agencies to increase on-the-ground presence. Both officers bring with them a wealth of investigations experience, having worked in the field for more than 50 years combined.
