The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested and charged a 27-year-old man following a traffic stop in Palmerston yesterday where he tested positive for prohibited drugs and was found in possession of a trafficable quantity of cannabis.
At approximately 11:30am on Thursday, officers from Territory Road Policing conducted a traffic apprehension on a vehicle in Palmerston for a roadside drug and alcohol test.
The driver allegedly returned a positive roadside result for a prohibited drug and was arrested for the purpose of conducting a secondary drug analysis.
Police subsequently conducted a search of the man's vehicle and allegedly located approximately 460 grams of cannabis. A quantity of the cannabis was packaged into smaller bags, which police will allege were prepared for supply.
The man was conveyed to the Palmerston Watch House, where a secondary drug analysis allegedly returned positive results for three prohibited drugs.
The 27-year-old remains in custody and has been charged with a number of offences, including:
- Possessing a trafficable quantity of a Schedule 2 drug in a public place
- Supplying a Schedule 2 dangerous drug - less than commercial quantity
- Driving with a prohibited drug in his body
- Driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed
- Driving an unregistered motor vehicle
- Driving an uninsured motor vehicle
He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today, 14 August 2026.
