Two Territory artists confirmed for BASSINTHEGRASS

NT Government

Phoebe Olivia and MSON are the winners of the BASSINTHEGRASS Territory Artists Competition this year, which means they will perform on the same stage as their music heroes as part of the festival's epic line-up at Mindil Beach on 21 May 2022.

Delivering a pop-dance vibe, Phoebe Olivia will take to the stage with a live band and back-up dancers, offering music lovers plenty to absorb during her 20-minute set. The 20-year-old from Darwin has been singing for several years and was a Triple J Unearthed Feature Artist last year.

Established in 2017, MSON (Make Something Outta Nothing) is one of the Territory's biggest hip-hop acts, featuring members Ferdinand Stan, Jake the Misfit, Seaning, Flipz810, Bleeza and Lil Yob. Rising through the ranks of a busy hip-hop scene, MSON stands out thanks to the quality of their performance and their sheer entertainment value.

The Territory Artists Competition was judged by industry representatives from Music NT, LACT Entertainment and NT Major Events Company. All agreed the level of talent evident in the 22 applications was incredible.

A handful of BASSINTHEGRASS Final Release tickets are on sale now for $130 (plus booking fee). You can also land a BASS and BASS Boat combo ticket for just $250, which includes entry to BASSINTHEGRASS, plus access to the exclusive Sunday BASS Boat cruise on Darwin Harbour.

Quotes from Minister for Major Events Natasha Fyles:

"The Territory Artists Competition is such an incredible opportunity for local musicians, and one we are proud to provide. The winners get to perform on the same stage as some of Australia's top music acts, and are exposed to key players in the music industry. You cannot buy this kind of experience.

"The applicants were judged on quality, genre, capability, development, experience and ability to perform, and the winners showed they had plenty to offer fans at BASSINTHEGRASS. They will be a valuable addition to an already impressive line-up.

"This year's BASSINTHEGRASS will see 16,000 music lovers flock to Mindil Beach, which is a great boost for our economy. A few tickets are left, but they're almost sold out. Don't delay. Buy yours now, because once they're gone, they're gone."

Quotes from winning Territory artist Phoebe Olivia:

"I was really excited to win. I've grown up in Darwin my whole life and performing at BASSINTHEGRASS has always been on my bucket list. I've been to the festival for the last five years or so as a music fan, and it's pretty epic to know I'll now be performing at it. I'll be bringing a pop dance vibe to my performance, with a live band and back-up dancers.

"I love this year's line-up and am looking forward to meeting the other artists to chat to them about music and get some inspiration, especially G Flip and Vera Blue.

"The Territory Artists Competition is such a cool opportunity for artists. Darwin is small, so it's great for local artists to have the chance to perform as part of this amazing festival line-up."

Quotes from Ferdinand Stan of winning Territory act MSON:

"This is like a dream come true to be honest. We said we wanted this in our two-year plan and achieving it helps us believe in the cause and our music, and where we are heading. But it's more than a milestone. We're all Darwin locals and have been going to BASS while going up through school, and now we will be performing there.

"This competition is such an amazing opportunity for local acts. It's good to get encouraged, and Darwin has a lot to represent. There are a lot of us trying to make a name for Darwin, and we're looking forward to being part of such a line-up. MSON really represents the diversity of Darwin's multicultural population."
