UB continues collaborating on health crisis

The UB community continues working on new actions, initiatives and collaborations regarding the fight against coronavirus to support hospitals, which are an important part of universities.

The Unit of Biophysics and Bioengineering of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences joined a cooperative campaign to make protecting visors with 3D printers. These visors will be given to Hospital Clínic to help protect the professionals who are at the front of this fight against coronavirus.

Donations are still on, and the UB Group has donated about 438,000 gloves, 32,550 masks, 773 hospital gowns, 13,200 hospital booties, and 10,000 hospital caps, apart from personal protection equipment, laboratory glasses and other health material. The following centers donated material to several hospitals: the faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences, Pharmacy and Food Sciences, Biology, Chemistry and Psychology, and the Science and Technological Centers of the UB, the Barcelona Science Park and Josep Finestres Foundation.

Moreover, the Bejing Foreign Studies University, partner of the Barcelona Confucius Institute -which collaborates with the UB, made a donation of 500 masks to the UB, and these will be distributed to the hospital centers through the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Six therapeutic adapters have been ceded: four come from the Science and Technological Centers, one from the Nursing School (sent to Bellvitge Hospital) and another from IL3-UB (sent to Hospital de Mollet). This equipment joins the sixteen beds and a defibrillator that were sent last week from the Nursing School to the Bellvitge Hospital.

Regarding volunteering, the university community responds to the calls from the several centers. A total of 488 students on their last year of Medicine and Nursing have collaborated with the Department of Health. The Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences made a student volunteering collaboration call so that volunteers bring medical products from the pharmacy to those who cannot leave their house.
