UPDATE #2: Concern for welfare - Kakadu

Northern Territory Police are continuing their search efforts for 35-year-old Jessica Louise Stephens.

Ms Stephens is believed to have travelled to Kakadu National Park on Tuesday 17 October 2023 and camped hear Nourlangie Rock, however she has not made contact with her family since.

Search operations in the vicinity commenced 24 October 2023 and involves 24 Kakadu National Park Ranger, 14 Police officers, utilising quad bikes, motorbikes, drones and 2 helicopters.

Yesterday afternoon, personal items believing to belong to Ms Stephens were located a considerable distance from the walking track in harsh terrain.

Police have concentrated their search effort into the location where these items have been found.

Acting Senior Sergeant Steve Langdon said "As search and rescue efforts enter the fourth day, severe to extreme heatwaves conditions are expected to continue across the Northern Territory and the environment continues to prove to be a challenge.

This has been a massive effort across agencies and we continue to hold out hope of finding Jessica"
