Update regarding long grass and fallen trees and branches

Mowing and long grass update

With over 2,500 parks, reserves and roadsides across Casey, Council uses three different contractors to maintain the majority of these open spaces and some Council facilities are serviced on different frequencies under different contracts.

Unfortunately, the contractor maintaining the local park areas across Casey's central area from Lynbrook, Hampton Park, through Narre Warren, and Cranbourne to, Clyde North, and Cranbourne East has had ongoing staff shortages and long delays in importing mowers due to COVID.

Our priorities remain servicing the sites with the longest timeframes in between services and ensuring that we are routinely visiting all our parks and reserves.

We're also adjusting our maintenance schedule so the gap in between mowing is reduced so that:

  • Sites in the north of the municipality will be mowed every three weeks.
  • All parks in central Casey will be mowed every four weeks

Storm clean up

Council received over 5,200 customer requests for storm and tree-related assistance between October and December 2021, which is greater than 50 per cent of the volume of requests that Council received for the entire 2020/21 financial year.

While we still have a backlog of 974 jobs to work through from the storm, with the ongoing use of additional resources we are working towards a return to our normal service levels and programs prior to the end of February.

As we maintain a focus on completing the backlog, delays may be experienced in attending to the additional 2066 requests that have been received since late December 2021.
