Victoria Park NO.1 Oval grandstand refurbishment complete

Dubbo Regional Council has completed major upgrades to the grandstand at Victoria Park No.1 Oval. The works were possible due to a $100,000 grant from NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund Round Four.

Construction works undertaken for the project over the past three months included:

  • Removal of existing wooden seating & broken flooring within the seating area;
  • Removal of existing paint;
  • Installation of new flooring in seating area;
  • Painting of flooring and hand rails and
  • Installation of new aluminium seating with back rest.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson is pleased with the improvements: "The completed refurbishments have significantly increased the aesthetics, quality, and durability of the grandstand and will encourage the continued attendance of spectators at community sports as well as regional, state and national sporting events. Victoria Park No.1 Oval is well-utilised by our local community and sporting clubs, and now provides a safer environment and better spectator experience," he said.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders highlighted the importance of this project and the economic benefit to the region: "Victoria Park No.1 Oval is a premier sporting facility in regional NSW and a drawcard for major sporting events that contribute immensely to the local visitor economy. The project also aligns with NSW Government's commitment to increase community participation in sport, recreation and cultural activities, and support health and wellbeing," he stated.

The refurbishment has provided local sporting clubs Dubbo Rugby Junior and Senior Club, Dubbo District Senior and Junior Cricket Clubs, Macquarie United, Orana Spurs and Dubbo Bulls Football Clubs with a higher quality facility.

The majority of works were undertaken by local contractors from the Dubbo Regional Council Local Government Area. The supply of the seating was the only part of the project not undertaken by local suppliers as this type of stadium seating is not available locally.
