A partnership between the Australian and Western Australian Governments will help more households to save on their energy bills.
The $19.9 million partnership program is to support:
- the Kimberley Communities Solar Saver program
- the expansion of the Sunshine Saver program.
These programs are co-funded by the Community Solar Banks initiative from the Australian Government to deploy of community-scale solar for those who are locked out of installing their own solar, like renters and low-income households.
The Kimberley Communities Solar Saver program
The program will see shared rooftop solar systems installed across 5 remote communities in the Kimberley region assisting more than 400 First Nations households to save on energy costs.
The program will:
- save households on average around $450 a year on energy costs
- provide cheaper, cleaner, and more reliable energy for community member
- reduce reliance and emissions from diesel generation.
The expanded Sunshine Saver program
Under the program, renters and low-income households in regional areas will be able to subscribe to Horizon Power's Sunshine Saver program for energy bill savings.
The program will:
- assist around 1,600 households in regional WA to access the benefits of solar without having to install their own rooftop systems
- save households around $250 on average each year on energy bills
- provide the benefits of large-scale renewable energy being integrated into their town's power network.
