Wanted man charged on outstanding warrants at Newtown

Police have arrested and charged a man on two outstanding warrants for domestic violence and robbery related offences, in Sydney's Inner West.

After receiving information, officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command, assisted by Central Metropolitan Region Operations Support Group, attended a home at Newtown, about 9.30am today (Monday 12 April 2021).

Police found a 31-year-old man hiding under a blanket in a bedroom. He was arrested at the scene and taken to Newtown Police Station.

He was charged with intentionally choke etc person with recklessness (DV), assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), aggravated assault with intent rob and use corporal violence, and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic).

Police will allege that the man assaulted and choked a 19-year-old woman, known to him, at a unit in Hillsdale on Thursday 1 April 2021.

It's further alleged the man demanded money from the woman, stole a bank card and assaulted her again on Sunday 4 April 2021.

The Hillsdale man was refused bail and appeared at Newtown Local Court today. He was refused bail to reappear at the same court on Monday 7 June 2021.
