You shouted out, we shouted out and election candidates have heard our call.
Over the past 10 weeks you've shouted out to your Victorian election candidates about the projects that are important to you. You have visited the Shout Out webpage more than 6,000 times and sent more than 600 emails advocating for our 10 top priorities.
Council's Shout Out campaign presented our most important priorities for the Peninsula to the candidates for Hastings, Mornington and Nepean.
With the election only a couple of weeks away, we asked each of the candidates to let us know which of our priorities they support. And it's clear from those that responded they overwhelmingly support all, or most, of our priorities.
It is now over to you, our voters, to decide on 26 November who will best represent the Peninsula and deliver on the commitments that have been made.
Together, this is what we have asked for:
- $100 million for social and affordable housing and urgent crisis accommodation funding
- a change to peri-regional status, giving us access to both metropolitan and regional funding streams while protecting our green wedge
- $500,000 to develop a business case for a performing arts precinct
- $50 million to make our roads safer
- $500,000 for coastal climate change planning, funding to maintain and enhance our coastal infrastructure and $100,000 each year for landslips and erosion
- rail electrification from Frankston to Hastings, more frequent and reliable bus services between our major towns and new cross-peninsula bus services
- $45 million to complete the 130km Peninsula Trail
- Rosebud hospital redevelopment
- $30 million for the Tyabb-Somerville recycled water scheme
- funding to improve broadband and mobile coverage and a business case for black spots across Peninsula.
